A guide to choosing a suitable headtorch for running or hiking, to help light up those dark nights and see you safely through from dusk until dawn.

Whether you’re heading out for an evening run, got caught out as the sun set on a hike, or just finding your way to the campsite facilities, a decent headtorch will make all the difference. Advances in lighting capacity and battery technology now offer us a dazzling range to choose from, depending on our budget and needs. Simple models with minimal adjustment sit alongside more advanced models, offering programmable lighting modes, multiple beams, and even intelligent reactive lighting that economises battery power.

Being able to combine Italian coffee, food and hospitality with a healthy quantity of snowshoeing is my ideal week! So I have to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed my week in Etroubles, near Aosta with the Austrian Alpine Club members. This is the second year that Tracks and Trails has guided a week of snowshoeing for Club members and as per last year I think I can say that a good time was had by all.

What a weekend of glorious weather! I am just back from running our Snowshoe Safari in Switzerland where we had a group making the journey from Leysin to Chateau d'Oex. We were blessed with blue skies and sunshine and some wonderful snow conditions with light fluffy powder shimmering in the air as we walked.

Just in from a fabulous blue sky day with Megan, Ali and Louise. A great girly day out with lots of banter and things to catch up on. I last saw Megan two years ago when she was 5 months pregnant ....when we snowshoed and cross country skied in and around Chamonix ...she didn't allow her pregnancy to stop her from getting into the mountains that's for sure.

The week long snowshoe trip in the Valais region of Switzerland is in full swing. We have had the best week of the winter so far in terms of weather; absolutely scorching sunshine, blue skies, and very little wind.

Our team have had some great days in the mountains with trips so far this week to Vicheres, Swiss Val Ferret, Mont de l'Arpille, and the Grand St Bernard Monastery. The Monastery was, as always, a wonderful experience and a real haven of peace and reflection in the mountains.

Last week saw the successful completion of the 3rd ever Mont Blanc Snowshoe week, led by Tracks and Trails in association with KE Adventure Travel. Find out more about our Chamonix Mont Blanc Snowshoe weeks.

Catching up on admin is enough to drive anyone out the door! As a goal to get through the emails, I organised an afternoon snowshoe with Lindsay, Mark and Cynthia. We saw yet more snow fall in the valley today and I guess some might decide that it's best to stay in on a cloudy/snowy day but in actual fact snowshoeing is an ideal way to enjoy those less than sunny days.

I have been on an adventure today searching for more interesting snow shoe routes to share with you - and have had one of the best days out ever. Blue skies, powder, and stunning views. Join us on a snowshoe holiday this winter season - we now offer trips in France, Switzerland, Italy, Bulgaria and Germany.

As a guide, there is nothing better than working with clients who are up for adventures, want to reach high points and bag peaks - all in the sunshine! What more could you ask for? My office 'window' has a fantastic new view every day.

It's just a few days before Julia heads back to the UK for Christmas and leaves behind the snowy alpine landscape, so off we set for a girls' ski tour along with friend Cathy O'Dowd. All in the name of research for our snowshoe holidays in Chamonix, France - where you can experience this wonderful snowshoe experience for yourself.
