Cross Country Skiing

Tailor Made Cross Country Ski Holidays

Cross Country skiing can easily be tailored to your needs. Our instructors use their experience and local knowledge to create your perfect tailor made trip at any level.

If you have a group of friends, family or colleagues looking for a bespoke holiday then please get in touch to discuss the numerous possibilities. We can create a unique alpine based experience just for you.

For athletes, and those of you who like to improve your fitness, cross country skiing can be as challenging as you choose it to be. Arguably it can be the most aerobic of sports; cross-country skiing is therefore ideal for winter cross-training from other endurance sports (such as cycling, running and triathlon). So why not take on a challenge and train for a cross-country ski race? We will teach you how to achieve your goal!

Cross Country Ski Venues

There are many cross country ski resorts in the Alps. Below are a few of the areas which we prefer to use. But if you have your own ideas for a base, then please get in touch.

  • Mont Blanc, Chamonix, France
The world famous Chamonix Valley in the French Alps is an idyllic base for exploring the near by valleys and plateaus of the Mont Blanc Massif. The home of mountain climbing, mythical peaks and great granite cliffs and glaciers makes this a stunning setting for cross country skiing.
  • Giffre, Grand Massif , France
Wide valleys, glaciated cliff walls, waterfalls, lakes and canyons…this area of the French Alps is steeped in limestone geology. Its' splendors hide unique treasures. Traditional villages and hamlets are hidden in valleys, surrounded by wonderful mountain vistas.
  • Beaufortain, Chartreuse , France
The Beaufortain is a ‘Tiny Tyrol', a land of fir trees and mountain pastures where the Tarine cows graze and produce the milk which becomes the Beaufort cheese. The Chartreuse National Park is a fantastic place to cross country ski due to its natural surroundings, diverse animal and plant species and graceful landscapes.
  • Chablais, Vallée Verte, Portes du Soleil, France
With views over Lake Geneva and Switzerland, this gentle mountain range leads to the Portes du Soleil where you can visit traditional shepherds' farms and chalets. The home of the Abondance cheese, rich in flavor just like its' surroundings.
  • Col des Mosses, Switzerland
In Switzerland we can visit the beautiful village of Col des Mosses. Perched on a high pass it retains good snow conditions and has a wide range of ski tracks. If you feel like changing your skis for other footwear you can try snowshoeing or skate on the outdoor rink.

Ski Safaris

If you would like to get a feel of various alpine locations then allow us to arrange a variety of areas for you to ski in and have your luggage transported for you to your next hotel.

  • Chamonix with its easy access from Geneva airport is an ideal base from which to begin a tour. As well as great tracks in the Chamonix Valley itself, we are only a 30 minute drive away from either Switzerland or Italy. Join us for a safari and take the chance to experience skiing in a variety of resorts. It's a wonderful way to experience three cultures and countries in just as many days. Then of course there's also the wonderful mix of different foods and wines!

Mountain Nights

The chance to spend a night in a mountain inn, isolated from the rest of the world by the snow, is an opportunity not to be missed. Accommodation ranges from ancient monasteries to rustic wooden chalets and state of the art igloos. It's a wonderful experience to come in from the cold to a warm welcome in the high mountains. You might want to consider including this option for one of the nights of your holiday? We can ski during the morning then put on snowshoes to reach our accommodation for the night. As you will see from our snowshoeing page this doesn't require any technical skill. If you've coped with skis you can snowshoe!

  • The Grand St Bernard Hospice is on a high pass linking Italy and Switzerland and is home to the world famous St Bernard mountain dog. The monks at the hospice have been offering comfort to weary travellers since the 11th century. In winter it can only be reached by snowshoes or skis which makes it a wonderful destination for a night in the mountains.
  • The Bonatti Refuge in Italy enjoys stunning views of the Mont Blanc Massif from the Italian side giving another perspective to this famous alpine range. This is a new mountain hut which pays homage to the world renowned Italian mountaineer and photographer Walter Bonatti. It makes a fantastic overnight trip, with Italian coffee and pasta to match!
  • The Whitepod Camp in Switzerland offers a unique luxury mountain experience. Situated high on a hillside with a majestic Alpine panorama before you this is therapy for the soul. Accommodation is in igloo style lodges.

Ski Racing

Our cross country ski instructors are also keen on fitness and on ski racing. Cross country skiing can be a very aerobic activity, which makes it perfect for winter cross-training from other endurance sports (such as cycling, running and triathlon). So why not take on a challenge and train for a cross-country ski race? Most resorts have regular competitive events throughout the winter season. We will help you pass the finish line!
