Scheduled Departures

Snowshoeing is ideal for people who walk on a regular basis and who want to experience the mountains in winter without needing to be a mountaineer or skier.

We know that finding a friend with a similar sense of adventure is not always easy and that joining a group can be the best way to find ready-made companions.

With this in mind we are offering two quite different snowshoe holidays. We have a long weekend making a snowshoe journey, or safari, through the mountains in the beautiful Vaud region of Switzerland and a week of day trips based in the stunning area around Mont Blanc in the world famous Chamonix Valley, in France.

Italian Snowshoe Explorer NEW

This is a new trip exploring the area around the Aosta Valley in Italy. We will be based in the mountain village of Etroubles which is itself in the Artanavaz Valley. It has been known since the time of the Roman Empire when it was called Restapolis and was the winter garrison for the mountain pass of Mont Jovis, now known as the Grand St Bernard Pass. Napoleon and Hannibal are both believed to have passed through here so you will be in the good company of adventurers from history! There are views to be had of some of the major alpine peaks such as the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc and the Grand Combin. The highlight has to be a trip to Val Ferret for a night in a mountain refuge.

  • stay at the famous Bonatti Refuge
  • destinations off the beaten track
  • major alpine peaks in view
  • Italian hospitality

Traverse of the Chablais NEW

This is a fantastic journey over the mountains between the French village of Megevette in the valley of the Arve in the east, through to the shores of Lake Geneva in the west. The Chablais area is renowned for its marvellous snowshoeing country and many of our highpoints give views to the Mont Blanc range. As we travel on our snowshoes from village to village, we pass through remote valleys, under towering limestone cliffs, and over high plateau. Each day our luggage is taken by taxi to our next hotel so no heavy loads to carry!

  • a true mountain journey
  • explore hidden valleys
  • visit ancient villages
  • sample local food and culture
  • only light day sac needed

Mont Blanc Snowshoe

This 8 day trip is aimed at those who are regular summer hill walkers and used to spending a full day in the mountains. You do not need previous snowshoe experience, but you do need a good level of fitness and be prepared to snowshoe off-piste!

The world famous Chamonix Valley in the French Alps is a good base from which to explore the valleys and peaks in the Mont Blanc Massif. With Switzerland and Italy each just a 30 minute drive away it allows us to experience three different cultures in just as many days. We prefer not to specify where we will walk each day, but have given a possible itinerary below. Your guide will make a daily decision based on weather and snow conditions.

  • Enjoy stunning views of the Mont Blanc range
  • Experience a night in the famous Grand St Bernard Monastery
  • All equipment hire included in price
  • Make fresh tracks in virgin snow - tread where others have still to go!

Swiss Snowshoe Safari

If you want to get a real sense of making a journey across the alpine landscape in winter then join us for a snowshoe walk between the Swiss villages of Leysin and Château-d'Oex. We make our way from village to village on snowshoes, while your luggage is transported to the next location.

If you enjoy walking in summer, and would now like to experience a winter wonderland then these 5 day trips are ideal. You do not need previous snowshoeing experience.

Your guide will make a daily decision based on weather and snow conditions which could mean we have to adapt our plans.

  • Make a journey over the winter landscape
  • Enjoy views of snow clad peaks and forests
  • Experience what it's like to create fresh tracks in powder snow
  • All equipment hire included in price

Chamonix Snowshoe and Ski

This 8 day trip is especially suited to those who are regularly active and would like to experience a winter wonderland on both skis and snowshoes. It is aimed at those of you who have little or no cross country skiing or snowshoe experience. Both activities are very easy to pick up and enjoy in a week.

The world famous Chamonix Valley in the French Alps is a good base from which to explore the alpine valleys and plateaus of the Mont Blanc Massif. With Switzerland and Italy each just a 30 minute drive away it allows us to experience three different cultures in just as many days.

  • Learn to cross country ski in both skate and classic technique on both Swiss & Italian snow
  • Snowshoe peaks around Mont Blanc
  • Ski along an Italian Valley, then snowshoe to a remote mountain hut for the night
