NEW: Jura Highlights Weekend
Following the success of our Grand Traverse of the Jura (GTJ) we have created a 'Jura Highlights' cross country ski weekend. Considered as one of the oldest winter sports, cross-country skiing continues to gain popularity.
We have based our weekends in Vallée de Joux, close to Geneva, to ensure it's easy to access and that we are on the doorstep of some of the region's highest cross country ski locations. The Jura's forested limestone plateau makes for perfect 'Nordic rolling' terrain. The different tracks in Vallée de Joux suit both beginners and experienced skiers. The region is very proud of both its traditions and sports and is steeped in history, geology and gastronomy. Making it the perfect weekend get away!
- Advance your ski skills with this long weekend
- Ski lakeside trails, on high passes & through deep forests
- Gorgeous views of Lake Geneva and the Alps
- 3*** Lakeside accommodation
- Enjoy tasty local cuisine
We have graded this trip as Introductory to Intermediate making it the perfect progression for those wanting to move on from our Italian Ski Weekends. This weekend will give you the opportunity to re-visit some of the basics, practice travelling techniques, downhill skills and progress to enjoy longer journeys. We aim to ski about 15km per day.

Our base is in the Vallée de Joux, in the Jura mountains in the Swiss canton of Vaud. Surrounded by limestone cliffs, the region boasts one of the largest cross country ski domains in central Europe with some 220km's of ski trails situated between 1000-1400m above sea level. During our weekend we will visit a number of these different ski locations. Choose from the Cols of the Mollendraz and Marchairuz, numerous forest like the Grand Risoud or lakeside trails. Our multi-day Trans Jura Swiss ski route also passes near these locations so it's an ideal way on this holiday to find out what this longer trip would entail.
The Jura is well known for its traditions and crafts. Great food is high on the agenda - especially the cheese, wine and liqueurs! Farming traditions continue today and historically in the winter months farmers became craftsmen working in wood and leather. The Vallée de Joux is, along with Neuchatel, the birthplace of Swiss horology and it is still the home of the most famous Swiss watch factories.
Day 1 Meet in the Vallée de Joux
Your guide will meet you at your hotel in Le Brassus at 6.30pm to brief you on the days ahead and answer any questions.
Accommodation:Hotel le Lande
Day 2 La Thomassette - Lac de Joux
After organising our ski hire locally (where we will be renting fish scale skis), we start our weekend by finding our ski legs along the local trails starting the Lac de Joux to Brassus at 1021m. We plan to then tour through the forests of La Thomassette. The terrain is ideal for practising our travelling technique and revisiting skills such as downhill practice along whilst enjoying skiing some kilometres.
Day 3 Crest of the Jura
High up on a limestone plateau we have access to a variety of ski trails including a taster of the Trans Jura Swiss style trails. We plan to start on the plateau itself and head out onto the snow covered meadows below Mont Tendre, 1678m. We then head up higher through the woods to a superb 'point de vue'.
Day 4 Col du Marchairuz and View of the Alps
For our final ski day we will head up from the valley to the mountain pass known as the Col du Marchairuz which links Aubonne, close to Lac Léman with Le Brassus. The pass summit, altitude 1447m, is in the middle of the Parc Jurassien Vaudois. Here we find reliable conditions and a variety of ski trails which are always well tracked and groomed, we have many options to lengthen or shorten our day. We plan to have lunch out today and enjoy views from this fabulous vantage point across to Lac Geneva (Léman), the Savoyard Alps and Mont Blanc.
Departure can be arranged today, if you'd prefer.
