Sunday 21 September 2008 12:27:28 pm Who said the Alps are crowded? Linz and I had a fabulous walk from Finhaut to Salvan on Friday afternoon, and didn't see a soul all day apart from a family of three chamois, a flock of fieldfare and a couple of grand corbeaux! (Ravens that is). A great time of year to be out here, the autumn colurs are stunning and the higher alpages are covered in alpine bearberry in swathes of reddish purple. Some snow has fallen but the temperatures are mild in the day, crisp in the early morning - we have had to wait until the rock warms before climbing, a good excuse for a morning coffee. On our way down to Salvan to catch the train back to Finhaut (a 15 minute dramatic journey, the railway literally clinging to the edge of the Gorges du Trient) we found a great hotel, the Hotel Balance, that runs yoga courses, and serves only vegetarian and organic food, grown in an extensive and beautiful garden. Keep an eye out for some Tracks and Trails joint walking, yoga and healthy living opportunities! |
