Ben Lawers

Cameron McNeish and Paul Diffley,Camera

What a brilliant few weeks of filming. I have been working as a Producer/Director on The Adventure Show for the BBC and have been treated to some fantastic experiences. We've just finished covering the Islands Peaks Race in Scotland where competitors sail/run from Oban, to Mull, Jura, Arran and back to Troon. Absolutely, staggered by thier determination and guts even when they were violently seasick and exhausted with running up peaks in the foulest of weather. Then last weekend it was off to the thrills and spills of the Mountain Bike World Cup event at Fort William. It was my first time there and I have to say the atmosphere was electric - a real buzz, with some amazing stunts and riding from racers from all over the World 300 competitors from 30 different countries.

In between times I have been Directing Britiains best know hill-walker Cameron McNeish on his Wild Walks series which is part of The Adventure Show. We had a glorious weekend in Torridon with an ascent of Beinn Alligin for the TV. It made a nice change to actually get some views from the summit. As always these days are long and tiring - think of a full mountain day, then add another 3 or 4 hours for filming and you have the general idea. Oh, dont forget about the equipment we need to carry, camera, batteries, tripod etc. Having said that I love it!

Yesterday, I was with Cameron in Highland Perthshire to film on Ben Lawers. Again we were blessed with a clear sunny day, though it was absolutely 'baltic' on the summit - isnt this supposed to June? We could see all the way to Ben Nevis, and the Cairngorms, and the Lomond Hill and the Lothians in the other direction . Cameron is great fun to be on the hill with and is never short of opinions - he's no stranger to controversy - but it's great to be with someone who is happy to speak thier mind and 'stir' the outdoor community into action over the issues of the day. When not filming we spend the time on the mountain chatting about our trips, comparing experiences, and also dreaming about where we hope to venture to next.

Our day out on Ben Lawers will be seen on the next edition of The Adventure Show, BBC2 Scotland towards the end of June. I will try and let you know once we have the transmission date.

PS The Alps are beckoning and I will soon be heading out to start the summer season.
